Romantic Comedies

"I am just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her!"
Yes I did think it was a smashing good line delivered wonderfully well by Julia Roberts in Notting Hill. A romantic comedy with Hugh Grant yet again with his British accent and almost mundane style of stumbling and stuttering dialogue delivery. Yet every girl you know loves that movie.

Why though must these movies always be a hit. Are we really that soft and mushy inside. I mean put Hugh Grant/Shah Rukh Khan/Julia Roberts/Cate Winslet, add a few comic characters, a few quirky lines and a climax that you have only seen a few million times and there you have hit: Box office success meets critical acclaim.

I guess everyone deep down inside just wants to be loved! But I would like to point out a few that i think aren't as cliched as some of the others and yet have the same quality-The happy ending

Definitely, Maybe

A movie which will always keep up that smile on your face. Ryan Reynolds plays the father who scripts a romantic mystery for his daughter narrating the 3 different women whom he fell in love with. All so that she can guess who her mother is and whom her dad is meant to be with eventually.

Jab we met

Geet! Need another reason to watch this movie. Well a cross country trip venturing into all the picturesque locations up north. The smartly written dialogues. I mean Hotel Decent, Ratlam ki Galiyan and of course " Kutte kaaminey, Soor ki aulad, Teri maa ki....." Shahid Kapur in one of his best performances and Kareena Kapoor stealing your hearts at through out the movie.

Hitch

Every Girl just wants to be swept off her feet, you just have to find the right broom size! Will Smith is easily one of the most engaging actors on screen but in this movie he stole the show. The date doctor Smith and Eva Mendes are both feisty and funny at the same time.

Jerry Maguire

Now I am not sure I can call this movie as a Romantic Comedy but when Tom Cruise shouts at the top of his voice" Show me the money!" to keep his only client Cuba Gooding junior, it leaves you in splits. the best part of the movie I think is when Cruise drunk and broken arrives at Renée Zellweger's house and chats up with her son who is brilliantly portrayed by that child actor.

Sleepless in Seattle

Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan need I say more! From the distress call by his son to a radio Jockey, to the last scene at the Empire State building this movie has a great story stamped all over it. All though the last scene is as predictable as it gets the scene that makes you empathize with Hanks is the one in which he speaks to the Radio Jockey explaining to her his life after the death of his wife. "I tell myself to breathe in and breathe out till one day i don;t have to say that to myself any more."
