LIFE : A COSMIC JOKE

Looking at the night sky or the vast ocean often give me a queer feeling.
I often wonder if there is anything at all to the phenomenon called life. Our existence is insignificant to the infinitely large universe. What has life to offer to us, when we are inconsequential to life and the universe in which we live in.

Now, I am not straying into my lost and cynical past. Yet, I must question the idea of GOD as we perceive it. The thought that there is a divine being controling things up there does not reassure me that everthing has a purpose. It does however, throw up a question. Are we random beings who have no control over our destiny? or worse yet, are we mere pawns in a game of chess (being played by you know who)?

Fear controls a lot of what we do. For many it is a fear that God exists. After all a car without a driver is an accident waiting to happen. And far too often people do what ever it is that they do because they fear that they will be punished. Punished by the one who is supposed to take care of us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It forces me then to think that our underlying faith in a supreme being is more to banquish our fear that things cannot happen randomly.
My question then to us all is this; IS life a cosmic joke? or do we have more of a reason to live than fulfilling the wishes of the ALMIGHTY?
A reality check tells me that i have strayed into being vague, so i leave u with an anecdote. If we cant be atheists or believers let us just be existentialists.

HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM A WODDY ALLEN BOOK:
A MAN ASKS HIS UNCLE,"COULD IT NOT BE THAT WE ARE ALONE AND AIMLESS, DOOMED TO WANDER IN AN INDIFFERENT UNIVERSE,WITH NO HOPE OF SALVATION,NOR ANY PROSPECT EXCEPT MISRY,DEATH AND THE EMPTY REALITY OF ETERNAL NOTHING?" THE UNCLE REPLIES,"YOU WONDER WHY YOU ARE NOT INVITED TO MORE PARTIES."
